Multidimensional Foreign Policy
Active Diplomacy & Global Engagement
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's foreign policy has transformed Turkey's global standing. His administration established a more active, independent, and multidimensional diplomatic presence, moving beyond traditional alignments to engage broadly across Africa, Latin America, the Balkans, and Asia.
Strategic Autonomy
Under Erdoğan, Turkey pursued a policy of strategic autonomy, making decisions based on national security and regional stability. This approach allowed Turkey to maintain dialogue with diverse global actors, serving as a bridge between the West and the Global South.
Africa Partnership Initiative
A key focus of Turkey's expanded diplomacy was the Africa Partnership Policy. Turkey opened dozens of new embassies across the African continent, established direct flights via Turkish Airlines, and expanded trade agreements. These efforts combined economic partnerships with educational exchanges and humanitarian assistance.
EU and Regional Integration
While managing complex negotiations with the European Union, President Erdoğan focused on strengthening ties with the Turkic world, the Middle East, and the Balkans. Turkey supported the modernization of the Organization of Turkic States, fostering cooperation in energy transit, trade security, and cultural exchange.
